3-Wall 4
Walls 4, from the series Walls
Walls is a photographic exploration of mourning and remembrance. In 2010-2011, I made the series in the Rubí stream. The images depict walls of vegetation or rock with debris attached to them. Most of it is refuse. That which is deeply lodged into the walls represents the vestiges of personal effects lost during the 1962 flood, the most severe in Catalonia’s modern history. The images suggest memorials through which past lives can be remembered and, above all, honored. Simultaneously, they are lamentations about the destruction of the natural world.
Walls is part of Janelle Lynch: Barcelona, my second monograph, forthcoming by Radius Books in 2013
